On bloody waters

The small vessel cut through the water like a dart. It's small crew was comprised of veteran sailors working silently and as efficiently as a clockwork machine. The night was clear and their target, a large merchant vessel pressing their luck by travelling a dangerous route had lookouts posted. The lookouts were vigilant but the pirate crew in the smaller ship had perfected the art of midnight raids. Black sails and dark stained wood made the small ship itself a ghost on the water. The crew was comprised solely of Hundar, a cunning race of reptilian humanoids known for their mastery of shipcraft. The Hundar shared many of the most beneficial traits of their smaller brethren including an equal comfort on both land and in water as well as acute vision during both day and night. It was this advantage of vision that allowed the raiding party to sidle up next to the wary merchant undetected as they used no light source other than the bright moon.

Wanting every possible advantage available to them the Hundar raiders covered their supple sharkskin armor in dark cloth. Any visible area of their lustrous scale hides with a dark paste created from ground seaweed to prevent any reflective glare from the bright moon. As silent as wraiths a handful of raiders clambered up the side of the ship along ropes fastened by padded grappling hooks. Slender blades in hand they made short and violent work of the posted sentries, letting their bodies fall in pools of blood along the deck. The merchant crew was made up of Kytani, a human like race whose sailing skills were far outshadowed by the Hundar. Two of the quickest Hundar raiders rapidly climbed to the crows nest hoping to silence the lookout before he realized his crew was being slaughtered below. As quick as the pair climbed, the lookout was vigilant and realized something was amiss below, calling a loud alarm before two blades took him in the throat and chest sending him sailing down to the deck below.
